this is just Kuroko's Basketball for soccer - it's a superhero manga disguised as a sports manga. It follows the storybeats of a cliche and stereotypical superhero shounen manga pretty well and does not do anything new or exciting. With that being said, the art is fantastic and heavily stylized which is really the only thing keeping me from dropping such a bog-standard shounen storyline. If you actually want to read a more realistic soccer sports manga, Ao Ashi is the way the go. Reply · Feb 11, 2023

I should probably start out by mentioning that this manga does a lot of things right. It has distilled the most exciting parts of soccer games--namely, the scoring of goals--and found ways to manipulate the rules of how the games are played in order to maximize those moments. Like, the entirety of the second selection and the upcoming Phase Two games have the games end after a certain number of goals are scored instead of after a 90-minute time limit, which literally disallows the manga from having games end 0-1. The manga also structures things in such a way that all of the best rival characters can be retained within the primary storyline and keep competing against each other, because the tournaments are very loose and (at times) freeform. There are some pretty good characters and the artwork is really impressive and, while it can be a bit cheesy at times, the manga creates some really exciting game developments. Reply · Dec 12, 2021

There are already a lot of reviews but my man I have to praise that masterpiece. This work remind me of Kuruko's Basket but this is way better for one thing : it is wild !! The main characters is a beast but his opponents are beasts as well, the fact that they are trying to "devour" each other is a brilliant idea. And finally there are real obstacle for the mc. This manga is amazing. After chapter 4, I was completly hooked on this. Im not a big fan of sport animes and mangas, but Blue Lock is a huge exception. I am not interested in soccer one bit, but it still managed to exceed my expectations. The side characters are amazing, and the way they introduce them is good as well. This manga will probably always be one of my favorites. No matter what type of manga you're interested in, I recommend this. Reply · Apr 26, 2021

It's a very pretty manga, and if you specially like the sports tag (like me) you'll enjoy this, but in terms of story it gets very repetitive, everything happens again and again, so, with time it gets pretty boring. The impactful moments won't be impactful anymore because they always have the same structure, same with the visual effects, and the story itself doesn't leave you eager to see what happens next story wise. The only thing that will keep you going is the beautil art and maybe seeing more of the characters who are entertaining to watch half the time, if they're not repeating themselves. Every now and then, shortcomings of Japan is attributed to their national characteristics, which supposedly prevent them from achieving what Western nations did. In the most extreme, it is told that an esteemed Japanese scientist argued that, to succeed in academia, Japanese people should think using English language, as Japanese language is unsuitable for scientific thought. Enter Blue lock, a football manga which seems to propose a similar explanation for Japan's failure to win a World Cup and dominate international football. Reply · Oct 29, 2020

The concept is so great- like ego pitched 300 soccer players against each other for the sole purpose of finding the best player. What's even more intense about the plot is that all 300 high school students play the same position. That's the competitive aspect of this manga. The thing is when they fail a task they're given in regards to soccer they won't be able to attempt a national level or become pro. Their soccer career is over once they're out. All 300 students are betting their lives upon entering Blue Lock. The art style is sooo good and detailed- it does the incredible plot justice. The characters are all very unique and have something stand out about all of them, some more than others. But that is to be expected when they're Japans best highschool strikers. Reply · Oct 09, 2020

This story is amazing! At first I was wierded out by the survival concept, but that quickly changed. This story is so much more than a traditional sports manga, it's like if the characters were going to soccer training in Ender's Game mixed with the Hunger Games. Everything is high intensity. The characters are good and drawn in a way that resemble characters from other mangas, but I love it. I can't wait to finish the series!! Reply · Jul 29, 2020

The concept of survival x sports is amazing. This is definitely a breath of fresh air for sports mangas because of its original and ambitious premise. Such a great find, I hope it continues to progress for the better as the story goes on. I also hope that this gets animated soon because I am absolutely in love with the art work. :D Reply · Jul 13, 2020
